Percussionist Mark Duggan is a versatile performer and composer active in multiple musical genres. His passionate blend of classical and world percussion has impressed audiences from the Tongyeong Music Festival in Korea and Lincoln Center in New York, to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Duggan has performed with the Philip Glass Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain de Paris with Pierre Boulez, the percussion group Nexus and is a regular performer with the Toronto Symphony, National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, Toronto New Music Concerts and the Esprit Orchestra. Duggan is a founding member of Canada’s Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan (since 1983), which has performed throughout Europe, Asia and the US. Duggan has also appeared with many jazz and pop music artists including Diana Krall, Charlie Haden, Maria Schneider, Petula Clark, Quinsin Natchoff, Brazilian guitarist Guinga, Henrique Cazes and has performed extensively with his own group Vuja dé. As a session player Duggan has appeared on dozens of film and commercial recordings. He has released five CDs of his own music, which have been twice nominated by both the Juno and East Coast Music Awards. Recent projects include performances with cavaquinho virtuoso Henrique Cazes in Brazil and Canada, as well as the premiere of Internal Combustion, a percussion concerto by composer Jeff Reilly. Duggan holds a doctorate in performance from the University of Toronto where he is a member of the percussion faculty.
